What is a Replacement Vehicle?

What is a Replacement Car?? It is defined as something that is placed in the place of another. This term is frequently heard in the car rental or "rent a car" sector. A replacement car is provided when the rented vehicle is involved in an accident or breaks down and remains in the service center. If the repair period exceeds the specified time in the insurance policy, the car rental company provides a temporary replacement car. However, in some cases, a replacement car may not be provided if the experts decide otherwise. Minor damages, such as a scratched bumper or surface scratches on the bodywork, may not require a replacement car as they do not affect the vehicle's functionality.

How to Get a Replacement Car? What Are the Conditions?

There are certain conditions set by insurance companies when obtaining a replacement car.

  • You must have a replacement car clause in the insurance policy,
  • The vehicle's functionality must be impaired or its operation must be difficult,
  • The repair time must exceed 2 days (48 hours),
  • It must be within the coverage provided by the insurance company.

Does the Replacement Car Affect the Insurance?

The vehicle insurance coverage includes the replacement car service. Therefore, this additional benefit does not damage or affect the validity of the insurance.

Each insurance company may have its own specific terms and procedures. These may vary. What are the special exceptions for the replacement car?

Damages not covered under the insurance policy are excluded. If the damage is determined by the expert to be outside the scope of the policy, the rental cost of the replacement car will be charged to the insured.
Radio, tape, or window damage may not be covered by the insurance.

If the insured car cannot move for reasons other than an accident (e.g., it is not working or its operation is obstructed), it is not covered by the insurance. Tolls, traffic fines, and fuel are also excluded from the coverage.

Replacement Car Coverage Applies Only to Partial Damages; Full damage such as total burn, theft, minor, or major accidents are not covered.

The responsibility for any use of credit card information, except for the cases mentioned above, lies with the car rental company providing the replacement vehicle.
